2020 Guide

NAVIGATE THE 2020 ELECTION

While the presidential election garners the most attention, Wisconsin has other important elections in 2020. Use this guide more for information on upcoming elections.

Special Election in the 7th

Among the races to watch early in 2020 is a special election to fill Congressman Sean Duffy’s seat in Wisconsin’s 7th congressional district. Duffy announced he was retiring in August, setting up a special election to fill the vacancy. Read what the two parties are saying about the vacancy.

“How good a candidate do they [Democrats] field up there? We have two very good candidates up there. So we know we're going to have a strong campaign and a strong candidate coming out of the primary.”
Mark Jefferson
Executive Director of the Republican Party of Wisconsin
“Job one is to make the most of every election day between now and November 2020. And job two is to make the most of the things we can learn from those election days whether we win or lose.”
Ben Wikler
Chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin

Supreme Court Race

The Wisconsin Supreme Court has seven nonpartisan justices who are elected to 10-year terms in statewide elections. Justice Daniel Kelly’s seat on the court will be on the ballot in the Spring election on April 7, 2020. While it will be the only statewide election before the general election, take caution in putting too much stock in the outcome. While Supreme Court elections are technically nonpartisan, candidates are normally backed by one of the two parties. Explore the past two Supreme Court races with the maps below.
