This recording tells the Chippewa people’s story of Mishipeshu, the Great Lynx that inhabits the dark waters of Lake Superior. This dramatic reading weaves together several stories about the mystical creature from different bands of Chippewa. These stories were created by Indigenous people to comprehend the vastness, dangers and dark storms that Lake Superior experiences every year. It should be noted that neither author is of Chippewa descent, yet they chose to produce this story to share the history and culture of the Native populations in Wisconsin.
