It’s started. During every holiday dinner, gathering with family friends and phone conversation with my parents, I hear it:
“So, what are you going to do after you graduate?”
I always answer with the same optimistic response about how I hope to get a job in journalism, travel the world and someday make it to the top of my field. But the truth is, I have no idea what I’ll do, where I’ll go or who will stand in my way. There are so many unknowns when it comes to life after college, and the feeling of uncertainty is both frustrating and scary to me.
Luckily for you, chances are that if you’re reading this, you’ve already cleared that hurdle – congratulations. Better yet, you’ve chosen to settle in the great state of Wisconsin. And whether you’re a newcomer to the Badger State or if you’ve lived here all your life, I’d be willing to bet you haven’t yet experienced all Wisconsin has to offer. Sure, you know that Wisconsin Dells is home to the nation’s largest water park, dairy products are an important source of income and the Green Bay Packers are the pride of the state. But move past those stereotypes. Do you know what a treasure this state really is?
That’s where we come in. So often Wisconsin falls victim to the harsh generalizations of people who have never set foot within its borders, but little do those naysayers know we are living in an exciting period in the state’s history. Real estate in our capital city is exceeding the quality of comparable properties in New York and Chicago. A new addition to Milwaukee’s skyline was recently named a “New Wonder of the World” by Conde Nast Traveler. One of the country’s rising philanthropic foundations is relocating to the state. And our cheese industry is in the process of a major overhaul, keeping our dairy operations competitive with California’s.
Our goal is to help you recognize the elements of Wisconsin that make it such a wonderful state to live and work in. As a young professional, you have the means to explore the state, and we encourage you to do just that. Drive up to Rhinelander to search for the elusive Hodag, or spend a weekend in Stevens Point observing what’s said to be the world’s largest trivia contest. Whatever you do, be sure to take advantage of everything Wisconsin has to offer, and take us along as your guide.
Welcome to CURB. Enjoy the ride.
