Sidebar: Not just flushing out the competition

College student Eliot Elzinga works at Whistling Straits during his summer breaks. He recalls an incident a few summers ago when the stubborn sheep wandered out of their usual territory. “The sheep had covertly come up the tenth hole of the Irish Course and crossed the tenth hole of the Straits Course to come up to the terrace in front of the clubhouse. They knocked over at least one table and trampled part of the plants,” said Elzinga “To remove them from the terrace, a staff member tried to scare them off. The sheep took off and charged down the cliff onto the 18th green.” Eventually the sheep were shooed off the green, but not before leaving the tired employees a few little presents on the course.
