Chele Isaac’s favorites
Spotlight, Style — By Sarah KaronChele Isaac shares some of her favorite things.
Restaurants: In Madison, Natt Spil and Bradbury’s. In Milwaukee, Bartolotta’s Lake Park Bistro, La Meranda and Soup Brothers.
Shops: The SWAP shop at UW-Madison is a blast. For fabric, Manhattan Textiles in Milwaukee and Gayfeather’s in Madison. For design inspiration, Century House, Zip Dang, Pop de Luxe and Jay Taylor. And I love trolling through Etsy.
Escapes: The Capital City bike loop, in Madison. And the Seth Peterson cottage, in Mirror Lake State Park. Frank Lloyd Wright designed it. It’s beautiful.
Artists: Kara Walker, Paul Chan, Tacita Dean, Pierre Huyghe, Eve Sussman, Eija Liisa Ahtila, Apichatpong Weerasethakul.
Wisconsin-based artists to watch: Andrew Salyer, Josh Nemic, Dale Kaminski, Marina Kelly, Ted Lott, Ginger Lukas, Jon Kramka, Emily Belknap.
Books: “The Adventures and Misadventures of Maqroll,” by Alvaro Mutis. And anything by Toni Morrison or Roberto Bolaño.
Music: Twin Sister, Laura Marling, Pomplamoose.
TV: “30 Rock,” Jon Stewart, the amazing stuff produced on HBO. “Curb Your Enthusiasm” is like a terrible weird candy. And all the housewife shows — that’s my dirty secret.
